Scott Boras, who was humiliated last year, is making a big hit this year. He hit three home runs in a row.

First, it offered San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman a six-year deal worth $151 million.

Chapman receives an annual salary of $25 million from 2025 to 2030. In 2025, he receives an additional $1 million down payment.

Chapman signed a one-year, $18 million contract with the Giants in March. The 2025 and 2026 seasons included player options and the 2027 seasons included mutual options.

Chapman had a batting average of 0.247 on-base percentage of 0.333 and a slugging percentage of 0.445 with 22 home runs and 69 RBIs in 136 games during the 2024 season. He thus hit the jackpot based on such performance.

Next is Japanese pitcher Yusei Kikuchi.

Kikuchi has agreed to a three-year, $63 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels. The average annual salary is $21 million.

Kikuchi pitched in 166 games over six years for the Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros, posting a 41-47 record with a 4.57 ERA.

This year, 33-year-old left-hander Kikuchi signed a four-year, 56-million-dollar contract with the Seattle Mariners after spending nine seasons with the Seibu Lions in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). He had a 13-million-dollar player option in his fourth year.

Kikuchi showed sluggish performances throughout his first two seasons. He had an ERA of 5.39 and an FIP of 5.17 in the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He rebounded slightly in 2021 with ERA of 4.41 and 4.61 FIPs. Kikuchi was named an All-Star in 11 starts between late April and early July 2021, with an ERA of 2.33 and a strikeout rate of 27.5%. However, it collapsed in the second half.

Kikuchi entered the FA market in his fourth year without exercising his player option. Then the Toronto Blue Jays caught him for three years and $36 million.

He pitched similarly to Seattle in the Toronto Blue Jays. He posted disastrous results with ERA 5.19 and FIP 5.62 over 1,002/3 innings in 2022 between the bullpen and the starting pitcher.

A turnaround has occurred in 2023. In 32 starts, he recorded ERA 3.86 with a strikeout rate of 25.9 percent and a walk rate of 6.9 percent.

However, the team was sluggish again in 2024. It was low with ERA 4.75. Toronto traded him to the Houston Astros.

Kikuchi has stabilized at Houston. He played 60 innings in 10 games with an ERA of 2.70.

After the season, the Angels spent a lot of money on the FA market again.

In his third at-bat, he hit a big home run. He gave Blake Snell a five-year, 182 million dollars. His team is the Los Angeles Dodgers, the “big player.”

Snell failed to find a team last offseason and belatedly agreed to a two-year contract with San Francisco.

Snell pitched in 20 games for the San Francisco Giants last season, going 5-3 with a 3.12 꽁머니 ERA. He showed sluggish performance with a 9.51 ERA in six games through June, but has rebounded with a 1.23 ERA in 14 games since July. In an away game against the Cincinnati Reds on Aug. 2, he pitched nine innings of no hit, three walks, and 11 strikeouts.

Boras lured the Dodgers based on this, and the Dodgers, who needed a left-hander, fell on his sech tongue.

Snell went 76-58 with a 3.19 ERA for the Tampa Bay Rays, San Diego Padres and San Francisco in nine seasons in the major leagues.

He also won the Cy Young Award in Tampa Bay in 2018 and San Diego in 2023.

The next at-bat is expected to be Kim Ha-sung. All major U.S. media are predicting that Kim Ha-sung will go to San Francisco. It seems that only detailed contract coordination remains.

Attention is focusing on whether Boras will be able to give Kim Ha-sung a home run contract.
